From struggling mama
to trusted consultant

The Milk Effect was created in 2021 — born directly from personal experience. When my son arrived in 2020, just a week or two before the world shut down from COVID-19, I quickly realized that knowing breastfeeding theory and actually doing it are two very different things.

I had worked with mothers for years at the hospital, helping babies latch. I had taken an introduction to breastfeeding course. I thought I had it figured out. I was wrong. Once I got home with my little one, everything I thought I knew was tested in ways I hadn't anticipated.

I experienced secondary low milk supply, my son had jaundice at birth, and the help I received from the hospital lactation consultant felt limited. There I was — a trained nurse — feeling lost and unsupported during one of the most vulnerable times of my life.

That's when I recognized the gap. There was a real need for a lactation consultant who specializes in pumping and low milk supply, who also brings clinical nursing expertise to the table. So I took additional courses while on maternity leave, became an IBCLC in 2021, and launched The Milk Effect.

Today, The Milk Effect is my way of making sure no mama feels as unsupported as I did — combining evidence-based lactation care with all-natural products and deep pump expertise so you have everything you need in one place.

Advanced Training &
Specialty Coursework

In addition to my IBCLC certification, I've completed extensive continuing education in pumping science and herbal lactation support — so you receive care grounded in the latest evidence.

Full Ethics Statement — Carisa Myers, RN, MSN, IBCLC

I acknowledge direct breastfeeding as the optimal and natural method of nourishing infants. I advocate for the judicious use of breastfeeding aids to address challenges for the briefest necessary duration or when faced with unavoidable separation between mother and infant.

My primary aim is to safeguard and promote the breastfeeding bond, facilitate the restoration and enhancement of direct breastfeeding, and support mothers in achieving their breastfeeding objectives.

I am dedicated to providing information on breast pumps and related equipment based on scientific research and evidence, devoid of personal biases. My objective is not to promote the marketing of breast pumps but rather to offer accurate and scientific education regarding their application, safety, and assistance in fostering the mother-baby breastfeeding connection.
