Overall Score Formula
Each pump is scored out of 100 points total.
⭐ 90–100 = Milk Effect Elite
⭐ 80–89 = Milk Effect Recommended
⭐ 70–79 = Milk Effect Worth Considering
⭐ 60–69 = Situational Use
Category Scoring Breakdown
1. Suction Effectiveness (20 points)
How well the pump removes milk
Score based on:
- Max suction strength
- Cycle pattern physiology
- Emptying efficiency
- Letdown stimulation ability
- Comparable output vs hospital pump
Example scoring guide:
20 = Hospital pump level emptying (Hospital grade is a term used to compare pumps used in the hospital setting or a marketing tool for pump companies so I say hospital pump)
15 = Strong wearable/portable/traditional performance
10 = Adequate but inconsistent
5 = Weak suction
2. Comfort & Flange Design (20 points)
Most important for long-term pumping success
Score based on:
- Tunnel shape
- Silicone vs plastic comfort
- Elastic nipple friendliness
- Nipple swelling tolerance
- Pain prevention
20 = Exceptional comfort for the majority of users
15 = Generally comfortable
10 = Mixed feedback
5 = Frequently causes discomfort
3. Output Consistency (15 points)
Milk volume reliability across sessions
Consider:
- Supply maintenance ability
- Pump response variability
- Dependence on precise positioning
15 = Reliable output
10 = Moderate variability
5 = Frequently inconsistent
4. Portability & Lifestyle Fit (15 points)
Real-life pumping usability
Evaluate:
- True wearable capability
- Can bend/drive/multitask
- Weight & bulk
- Discreetness

Consider:
- Learning curve
- Number of parts
- App usability
- Controls
10 = Very intuitive
7 = Moderate learning curve
3 = Complicated
7. Cleaning & Maintenance (5 points)
5 = Minimal parts, fast dry
3 = Standard cleaning
1 = Time-consuming
8. Value for Cost (10 points)
Assess:
- Price vs performance
- Replacement part cost
- Longevity
10 = Excellent value
7 = Fair
3 = Overpriced
