The Collection Cups You Didn’t Know You Needed: Pumpables Cups

Hey y’all, it’s me again….

I’m back with another review and this time it is from one of my favorite brands! Pumpables

So Pumpables came out with Collection cups and I knew I needed to try them because I used their liquid kits 6 years ago and currently.

Here is my unboxing reel if you want to check it out:

Now, let’s get into it

⭐ Quick Verdict

Best for:

✔ Moms with elastic nipples

✔ Exclusive pumpers needing comfort

✔ Those sensitive to hard plastic flanges

Not ideal for:

✘ Moms who prefer very rigid plastic feel

✘ Those wanting a traditional flange seal

✘ Those needing a size other than 17 mm and 21 mm (They will be coming out with other sizes soon)

Overview

Unique features:

There are notches inside the cups that make it easy to know where to place the diaphragm and duckbill portion of the setup and have it stay in place. The flanges also connect right into the middle portion making it less parts to setup. The flange is the same as their liquid kits so if you have tried those, it’s the same thing. At the top, you can clearly see a motor can fit on top so I’m assuming that’s where their pump motor will go. The duckbills are square and easy to put on before or after putting in the diaphragm piece.

Personal Experience:

I already use pumpables as one of my main pumps and using the cups was even better for me at work and at home when my toddler and 6 year old are both home. It was easy to setup and put on. I always use lubrication so once I figured out that I could not use olive oil it was even better. I tired the cups with various pumps, both primary and secondary, and the cups did not disappoint. I did not take a picture, but one day at work I was able to do about 7 mL for one session. That is usually what I get for 2 with a wearable pump.

Now lets talk Pro’s and Con’s that I have noticed as a pumper and IBCLC

Pro:

✔ Consistent output compared to using traditional flanges and other wearable cups

✔Comfortable silicone

✔Can be hooked up to any pump (I tried baby buddha, pumpables genie advanced, spectra s1, a pump coming out I can’t name yet, and Lansinoh natural wave)

Con:
✘ The duckbill fall off easy if it is not placed good

✘The tubing that comes with the cups are pretty long so it is best to cut them a little

✘ I noticed when I used olive oil instead of coconut oil the duckbills were more greasy requiring a longer soak

IBCLC Clinical Insight:

From a lactation physiology standpoint, softer flange materials can:

  • support better nipple perfusion

  • reduce compression injury

  • allow fuller expansion during milk ejection

Online I see a lot of lactation consultants say they prefer hard plastic, but pumpables is a great silicone option
